Claim

In May and June 1954 Mrs. Guy A. (Frances H.) Swan of Eliot, Maine, produced fast handwritten messages she attributed to beings named AFFA and PONNAR; retired Rear Admiral H.B. Knowles, who watched a session on 26 May, sent them to the Chief of Naval Intelligence, Rear Admiral C.F. Espe, on 27 May 1954.

Provenance

The cited copy is a retyped transcription (Crawford, 38 Messages from Space, 2008), made from scans in Grant Cameron's Wilbert Smith Archives. We did not pull the original scans. If the claim is challenged, get the scans from the Cameron CD-ROM or the University of Ottawa Smith papers. Dropped from the earlier wording: "names drawn from Williamson's The Saucers Speak". Wikipedia's Williamson article doubts that its Ponnar is Swan's Ponnar, so the derivation is not established.
